TL;DR: California carries 137 club records on ClubScout, 133 of them with at least one confirmed league place — our biggest single-state file outside New England. The number that actually explains the state is 45 clubs holding an MLS NEXT place, more than double the next-deepest state in our data. Underneath that sits the same ECNL Regional League backbone you see in Texas: 53 clubs with an ECNL RL place and 36 running Pre-ECNL for U9–U12. But California is not one market. It is at least six — Bay Area, Sacramento, Central Valley, Central Coast, Greater Los Angeles, San Diego — and the top tier is present in every one of them, which is true of no other state we cover. That is good news and a trap: you have real options within 40 minutes of home, so there is no reason to drive three hours. Two honest caveats before you read on. Sixty-two of the 137 records do not yet have a live public profile, and not one California club publishes a full season fee, so every dollar figure below is labeled as modeled.

What Makes California Different
Every region has a top tier, so distance is a choice you are making, not one being made for you. In Texas, the top tier lives in four metros and a family outside them drives. In North Carolina it is two metros. In California, we have top-tier clubs in the Bay Area, in Sacramento, in the Central Valley, on the Central Coast, in Los Angeles, in Orange County, in the Inland Empire and in San Diego. That changes the first question. It is not "where is the nearest ECNL club" — it is "which of the several near me fits my kid." If a club is telling you a 90-minute drive is the price of the level, check that claim against the map. In most of California it is not true.
MLS NEXT is broader here than anywhere else, and that is not the same as better. Forty-five California club records hold an MLS NEXT place. Florida and New York are next at 22 each; Texas has 16. So the league name that reads as scarce and selective in the Northeast is, in California, something dozens of clubs can put on a banner. Treat it as a schedule and a travel commitment, not a verdict on coaching. Read MLS NEXT vs ECNL before you let the acronym decide.
The ECNL Regional League is the tier most California families will actually live in. Fifty-three clubs carry an ECNL RL place, split almost exactly evenly between the boys' and girls' sides at 46 each. Thirty-six run Pre-ECNL for U9 through U12. Functionally this is the Texas structure, not the New England one: instead of climbing from a town program into EDP or NECSL, a California kid usually starts in a Pre-ECNL group inside a club, moves to ECNL RL at U13, and gets to ECNL proper only if they keep up — often without ever changing clubs. Our ECNL RL vs EDP vs NECSL comparison covers what that tier costs and demands.
The girls' side is genuinely deep, which is rare in our data. Thirty-one records with a Girls Academy place, 22 with ECNL Girls, 46 with ECNL RL Girls, and 30 with a DPL place. Thirty-three California records hold a top-tier boys place and a top-tier girls place under one roof. In most states we have written up, a family with a daughter gets a visibly shorter list than a family with a son. Here the two lists are close to the same length. The girls club soccer guide covers how to compare the two pathways, and ECNL vs Girls Academy explains the fork.
One club runs a fully tuition-free residential academy, and it is worth understanding what that actually is. San Diego FC operates the Right to Dream Academy on a 28-acre campus east of San Diego, on the land of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation. Per the club, tuition is free for student-athletes and their families, and the program includes grades 6–12 schooling and a residential life program. Tryouts are currently open for boys born in 2014 and 2015 by interest form. This is a boarding academy with an academic program attached, not a club team your kid drives to on Tuesdays. Different decision entirely.
No California club publishes a full season fee. We read the fee text on all 137 records. What we found instead were fragments: a 12-week program price, a rec league price, a monthly toddler-program price, and three clubs describing tuition-free or no-stated-cost programs. That is it. So the cost table further down is modeled from our published guides and comparable clubs elsewhere in the database, and it says so.
Leagues Active in California
Listed from most competitive to least. Every club named here has a confirmed league row in our database, and only clubs with a live profile are linked.
Top-Tier National Leagues
MLS NEXT — 45 California records hold an MLS NEXT place. Eighteen of the 19 with a live profile: ALBION SC Los Angeles, ALBION SC Merced, Albion SC Riverside, Albion SC San Diego, Burlingame Soccer Club, Chula Vista FC, City SC Southwest, De Anza Force, Diablo Valley Futbol Club, Elk Grove Soccer, FC Golden State Force, Los Angeles Bulls Soccer Club, Napa United, San Diego FC, San Jose Earthquakes, Santa Barbara Soccer Club, Strikers FC, and Ventura County Fusion. The nineteenth, SoCal Reds FC in Irvine, is in the table below. The remaining 26 are records still in review — several of them the best-known names in the state.
MLS NEXT Academy Division — One California club in our data holds a place at this level: Strikers FC in Irvine, which also holds an MLS NEXT place. The club has been developing players in Orange County for over 40 years and lists nine USMNT alumni. Its technical director, Don Ebert, holds a USSF A License and has been at the club since 1989.
ECNL Boys — 26 records, 20 with a live profile: 1974 Newark FC, El Camino FC Salinas, Folsom Lake Surf, LA Breakers FC, LAFC So Cal, Legends FC - Del Mar, Los Gatos United, MVLA, Marin FC, Mustang SC, Pateadores, River Islands Surf, SDSC Surf, San Diego Surf, San Francisco Elite Academy, San Juan SC, Santa Clara Sporting, Santa Rosa United, Slammers FC, and Sporting California USA.
ECNL Girls — 22 records, 16 with a live profile: Eagles SC, LA Breakers FC, LAFC So Cal, Legends FC - Del Mar, MVLA, Marin FC, Mustang SC, Pateadores, Pleasanton RAGE, San Diego Surf, San Juan SC, Santa Rosa United, Slammers FC, So Cal Blues, Sporting California USA, and Stanislaus Surf Soccer Club.
Girls Academy — 31 records, the most of any state in our data. Fifteen of the 16 with a live profile: 1974 Newark FC, ALBION SC Merced, Albion SC San Diego, Blues FC, California Football Academy, City SC, City SC Southwest, Clovis Crossfire, Los Gatos United, Rangers FC, SDSC Surf, SF Glens, San Francisco Elite Academy, Santa Barbara Soccer Club, and Santa Clara Sporting. The sixteenth, SoCal Reds FC, is in the table below.
The California Middle: ECNL RL and Pre-ECNL
ECNL RL Boys and ECNL RL Girls — 53 records, 46 on each side. This is the largest single tier in California and the level most travel families here will actually experience. Regional conferences keep the bulk of league play in-state, with national events for teams that qualify. Cost and travel sit well below the national tier, and in a state this large that difference is measured in flights, not just gas.
Pre-ECNL Boys and Pre-ECNL Girls — 36 records, 29 boys and 24 girls. The U9–U12 feeder attached to the ECNL structure above it. Two things worth knowing. First, the girls' side is thinner than the boys' side, so a family with a 10-year-old daughter has a shorter local list than the headline number suggests. Second, a Pre-ECNL invitation at U10 is not a verdict on anything — read our age-by-age guide before you treat it as one.
Regional and Tier-2 Leagues
DPL (Development Player League) — 30 records, the second-largest tier in the state and much bigger here than in Texas or the Northeast. The 20 with a live profile include ALBION SC Central Valley, ALBION SC Santa Monica, ALBION SC Silicon Valley, Association FC, Central Cal Aztecs, Central Coast United SC, Ceres Rush, City SC - San Marcos, City SC Central Valley, City SC Kings County, and Culver City Football Club. DPL is the developmental girls complement many top-tier clubs run alongside their headline teams — DPL vs ECNL and Girls Academy vs DPL have the comparisons.
NPL (National Premier Leagues) — 26 records. The 20 with a live profile include Blues FC, Clovis Crossfire, Eagles SC, Legends FC, North Coast Futbol Club, Revolution FC, and South Valley United Soccer Club.
NAL (National Academy League) — Three records. Two have a live profile: FC Golden State Force and San Jose Earthquakes.
State leagues — Cal North and Cal South sanction the leagues where the bulk of California travel soccer is actually played: NorCal Premier in the north, the SOCAL Soccer League and Coast Soccer League in the south. Our data carries these affiliations for only nine records so far — Association FC, Ceres Rush, De Anza Force and Valley Surf in NorCal Premier; City SC - San Marcos and SDSC Surf in SOCAL; Central Coast United SC and Eagles SC in Coast Soccer League. If a club's site mentions a state or regional league we have not listed, that is a gap in our enrichment, not a contradiction. Ask the club. For the full landscape, see Compare All Youth Soccer Leagues and the youth soccer glossary.
Two leagues you will not find here: EDP and NECSL, which dominate the Northeast, have no California presence in our data at all. If you have moved from New Jersey or New England, the tiers map roughly but the names do not.
The Regions
Bay Area (42 records, 25 with live profiles)
The densest cluster in the state and the one where commute discipline matters most, because a 12-mile trip across a bridge at 5:30 PM is not a 20-minute drive.
San Francisco and the Peninsula. San Francisco Elite Academy carries the widest confirmed ladder in the city — ECNL Boys, Girls Academy, both ECNL RL sides and Pre-ECNL Boys. SF Glens, founded in 1961, is the largest club in San Francisco with more than 100 teams and roughly 1,200 youth and adult players; as a nonprofit it reports distributing over $300,000 in scholarships last year and says it has never turned away a player for financial hardship. Down the Peninsula, Burlingame Soccer Club, JSC Soccer Club in Redwood City and Stanford Strikers FC in Menlo Park cover the corridor.
South Bay. MVLA in Mountain View and Santa Clara Sporting anchor the top tier, with Los Gatos United running both ECNL Boys and Girls Academy. San Jose Earthquakes and FC Golden State Force hold the MLS NEXT and National Academy League places. De Anza Force has served players from age five through high school for over 25 years across MLS NEXT, NPL and NorCal Premier; USWNT alumna Brandi Chastain is listed on its coaching staff.
East Bay and Tri-Valley. Mustang SC, established in Danville in 1972, runs the full ECNL ladder for both boys and girls plus rec and select tiers, out of the Mustang Soccer Complex on Camino Tassajara Road and 13 other school and park fields. Pleasanton RAGE is an all-girls club serving ages 4 to 18 with ECNL Girls, ECNL RL Girls and Pre-ECNL Girls. Livermore Fusion SC, San Ramon FC, Walnut Creek Surf Soccer Club, Alameda Soccer Club, Revolution FC in Brentwood and Association FC in Oakland fill out the middle.
North Bay. Marin FC in Greenbrae runs the complete six-league ECNL stack and programs down to age four through its Kinder FC group. Napa United holds an MLS NEXT place. Santa Rosa United covers Sonoma County, North Coast Futbol Club is the Petaluma option, and Solano Surf serves Fairfield.
Sacramento and the Foothills (11 records, 5 with live profiles)
Smaller and more concentrated than the Bay Area, and the region where our review backlog bites hardest — six of 11 records have no live profile yet. San Juan SC carries the full six-league ECNL stack. Folsom Lake Surf covers ECNL Boys, ECNL RL Boys, ECNL RL Girls, Pre-ECNL Boys and Pre-ECNL Girls. Union Sacramento FC sits in the ECNL RL middle, Elk Grove Soccer holds MLS NEXT and NPL places, and Blues FC in Rocklin runs Girls Academy and NPL.
Central Valley (19 records, 9 with live profiles)
The most under-served region relative to its population, and the one where a family is most likely to face a real drive. The clubs that are here are legitimate. Stanislaus Surf Soccer Club in Modesto holds ECNL Girls, ECNL RL Boys and ECNL RL Girls. Clovis Crossfire runs Girls Academy, ECNL RL Boys and NPL. ALBION SC Merced carries MLS NEXT, Girls Academy and DPL — an unusually wide spread for a city that size. River Islands Surf in Lathrop covers ECNL Boys. The rest of the corridor from Stockton to Bakersfield is served by City SC Kings County in Hanford, South Valley United Soccer Club in Visalia, CV Futbol Academy in Turlock, Ceres Rush and Valley Surf.
Central Coast (3 records, all with live profiles)
Thin, but every record here is live and top-tier. Santa Barbara Soccer Club holds MLS NEXT and Girls Academy places. Ventura County Fusion holds MLS NEXT and DPL. El Camino FC Salinas covers ECNL Boys, ECNL RL Boys, ECNL RL Girls and Pre-ECNL Boys, and is the only confirmed option in the Salinas Valley. Between Ventura and Salinas is roughly 250 miles with almost nothing in our data in between, so San Luis Obispo and Monterey families should expect to drive or to ask us about a gap.
Greater Los Angeles (27 records, 15 with live profiles)
Three sub-markets that behave differently, and the region where "nearest" and "best fit" diverge most.
LA County. LA Breakers FC and LAFC So Cal both carry the full six-league ECNL stack plus NPL, which makes them the two widest ladders with live profiles in the county. ALBION SC Los Angeles and Los Angeles Bulls Soccer Club hold MLS NEXT and DPL places. Culver City Football Club and ALBION SC Santa Monica serve the Westside. Nine more LA County records, including several of the best-known names in California youth soccer, are still in review.
Orange County. The strongest concentration of top-tier girls' soccer in the state. Slammers FC, founded in Huntington Beach in 1994, runs the full ECNL stack plus NPL and reports 22 national championships and six ECNL Overall Club Championships. So Cal Blues in San Clemente holds ECNL Girls, ECNL RL Girls, Pre-ECNL Girls, DPL and NPL. Pateadores in Santa Ana carries all six ECNL tiers. Strikers FC and SoCal Reds FC hold the MLS NEXT places, and Rangers FC in Fullerton runs Girls Academy.
Inland Empire. Thin: three records, two live. Albion SC Riverside holds MLS NEXT, DPL and NPL places. Legends FC in Eastvale holds an NPL place. If you are in Riverside or San Bernardino County, expect your realistic shortlist to include Orange County clubs and a freeway.
San Diego (13 records, 8 with live profiles)
Compact, deep, and the one region where a family can compare several top-tier clubs inside a 30-minute radius. San Diego Surf carries the full six-league ECNL stack plus NPL. Legends FC - Del Mar covers ECNL Boys and Girls plus ECNL RL Boys, ECNL RL Girls and Pre-ECNL Boys, and serves ages 3 through 18. SDSC Surf runs ECNL Boys, Girls Academy, ECNL RL Boys, Pre-ECNL Boys and the SOCAL Soccer League. Albion SC San Diego holds MLS NEXT, Girls Academy and NPL. Chula Vista FC covers the South Bay with MLS NEXT and DPL, City SC in Carlsbad and City SC - San Marcos cover North County, and San Diego FC runs the residential academy described above.

What to expect at this level: national showcases, travel well beyond the region, and year-round programs. Modeled annual cost runs $3,500 to $7,000+ before tournament fees, kit and family travel. Tryouts start earliest at this tier, and in California the calendar starts earlier than most parents expect — De Anza Force opens MLS NEXT player ID sessions on January 7, and runs further player ID sessions in February. See our tryout preparation guide.
ECNL RL and Pre-ECNL Clubs
These 13 clubs compete in the ECNL Regional League or Pre-ECNL tiers without a top-tier national place, and have a live profile. This is not a consolation bracket. For most California families it is the right level: the same regional conference structure, most weekends in-state, and a cost step down that is measured in thousands.

A Note on California Data Quality
We would rather tell you this than have you find it yourself. California is our newest large state and the enrichment pass has real gaps.
Sixty-two of the 137 records do not have a live profile yet. They are in review, not deleted or disqualified. Practically, it means the club lists above are shorter than the state actually is, and that several of California's best-known programs are missing from them. If you are searching and cannot find a club you know exists, that is the most likely reason.
Some clubs appear more than once, under different names, with different league rows on each record. At least 14 of the 137 records are a second or third entry for a club already listed. The clearest example is SF Glens: the club appears three times in our data, only one entry has a live profile, and that entry's confirmed league place is Girls Academy while the other two carry the boys' side. So the profile you can open shows less than the club actually runs. The same split affects the LA Surf, Modesto Ajax, California Odyssey, Bay Area Surf, Silicon Valley, Lamorinda, Woodside Crush, Legends FC San Diego, City SC Carlsbad and Slammers HB Køge records. We are working through the consolidation. Until it lands, do not read a short league list on one of these profiles as the club's full program.
Four records carry no confirmed league place at all. Capital FC in Sacramento, Club América Nido Águila in Stockton, Legends FC San Diego, and Slammers FC HB Køge in Huntington Beach. Each one has a description claiming a league that our league-directory data does not confirm, which is exactly the pattern that means an affiliation is pending rather than absent. We will not state a league for these until the row exists. Ask the club directly.
Three profile descriptions came from the wrong website. Our crawler occasionally lands on an unrelated domain. It hit a Thai online gambling site for one Los Angeles record, a surf-lesson business in Oceanside for San Diego Surf, and a personal family page for the Davis Legacy record. In each case the league affiliation is still confirmed, because that comes from league directories rather than the club's own site, but treat the descriptive text as unverified.
Twenty-two records have no confirmed city. Several are recognizable regional names — Central Cal Aztecs, Inland Surf, Central Coast United, Boca Orange County — but "California" is not a commute you can plan. Confirm the training location before you shortlist one.
If you run one of these clubs, claim your profile and fix it in a few minutes. If you are a parent who spots something wrong, tell us. Accurate data is the entire point.
What Club Soccer in California Actually Costs
Zero of 137 California clubs publish a full season fee. Not one. So this table is modeled from our published cost guides and comparable clubs elsewhere in the database. It is a planning range, not a quote.
| Level | Estimated Annual Range | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-ECNL / academy (U9–U12) | $1,200–$2,500 | Modeled |
| Select / state league (NorCal, SOCAL, Coast) | $1,500–$3,000 | Modeled |
| ECNL RL | $2,500–$4,500 | Modeled |
| NPL / NAL / DPL | $2,500–$4,500 | Modeled |
| Girls Academy | $3,500–$6,000 | Modeled |
| ECNL Boys / ECNL Girls | $3,500–$6,500 | Modeled |
| MLS NEXT (non-MLS club) | $4,000–$7,000+ | Modeled |
| MLS club academy teams | Typically no player fee | League homegrown rules |
Add uniform kit ($150–$400 in year one), tournament fees ($500–$1,500), and family travel ($300–$1,200+, and more if your kid's conference reaches across a state 800 miles long). Plan for the high end your first year.
The five dollar figures we did verify are worth reading, because of what they are not:
- San Diego FC's Right to Dream Academy is tuition-free, per the club, with costs covered by the founders. That is a residential academy, not a commuter team.
- Valley Surf describes its USL Academy program as covering training, coaching, Nike uniforms on loan, off-field sessions and video at no stated cost to players. "No stated cost" is not the same as "free." Get it in writing.
- Burlingame Soccer Club lists $735 for its Juniors Academy and Technical Development Program — 24 sessions over 12 weeks, with no prorated refunds for missed sessions. That is a program price, not a season fee.
- CV Futbol Academy lists $75 early-bird and $95 regular for recreational league registration, with tournament entry fees of $600–$1,050 per team. Rec pricing, not travel pricing.
- City SC Southwest lists $59 per month for its Little Cityzens program, with $5 off per additional sibling, and need-based financial assistance for its competitive programs.
Seven more clubs told our crawler that financial aid exists without publishing a number, including Pleasanton RAGE, Marin FC, Elk Grove Soccer, Folsom Lake Surf and ALBION SC Los Angeles. Most clubs will not mention aid unless you ask. Ask.
On uniforms: most clubs run a two-year kit cycle. Ask whether 2026–27 is year one or year two before you order. In year one, buy what fits now rather than sizing up. In year two you can replace single pieces your kid has outgrown.
What This Means If You're Searching for a Club
If you're in the Bay Area: you have the most options and the hardest narrowing job. Start with the drive, not the league name — map it from your house at 5:30 PM on a Tuesday, across whichever bridge or corridor you would actually use, then compare what is left. Our guide to choosing a club is built for exactly this.
If you're in Sacramento: the region is small enough to see whole. San Juan SC and Folsom Lake Surf are the two widest ladders with live profiles, which matters if you have more than one kid at different levels. Six of the region's 11 records are still in review, so check back or ask us.
If you're in the Central Valley: the honest answer is that your list is shorter than a Bay Area family's, and the drive to a top-tier club is real. But ALBION SC Merced, Clovis Crossfire and Stanislaus Surf Soccer Club are top-tier programs inside the Valley. Exhaust the local option before you commit a family to Highway 99 four nights a week.
If you're in Los Angeles or Orange County: the density is a trap as much as a gift, because the nearest club and the best-fit club are rarely the same one, and traffic makes the difference bigger than the mileage suggests. LA Breakers FC and LAFC So Cal run the widest confirmed ladders in LA County; Slammers FC and Pateadores do in Orange County. Nine LA County records are still in review, so treat the current list as partial.
If you're in San Diego: the best ratio of top-tier options to driving distance in the state. Compare three or four inside 30 minutes before you look further.
If you have a daughter: California is the strongest state in our data for girls' top-tier access. Thirty-one Girls Academy records, 22 ECNL Girls, 46 ECNL RL Girls and 30 DPL. Two clubs worth knowing specifically: Pleasanton RAGE is an all-girls club running ECNL Girls, ECNL RL Girls and Pre-ECNL Girls for ages 4 to 18, and So Cal Blues carries ECNL Girls, ECNL RL Girls, Pre-ECNL Girls, DPL and NPL. The thin spot is younger ages — 24 Pre-ECNL Girls records against 29 on the boys' side — so if your daughter is 10, expect a shorter list. Read ECNL vs Girls Academy before you decide the pathway matters more than the coach.
If you just moved here: the tier names are different, not the tiers. ECNL RL sits roughly where EDP or NECSL sat in your old state, and Pre-ECNL is a level with no Northeast equivalent. Two calendar notes: California high school soccer runs in winter, which changes the conflict entirely, and player ID sessions here start in January, not spring. See Can My Kid Play Club AND High School Soccer?, and ask each club directly, because no club in our California data publishes a policy on it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do so many California clubs say MLS NEXT?
Because 45 of them hold a place in it — more than double any other state in our data. In the Northeast, MLS NEXT is scarce enough that the name carries information. In California it does not, on its own. Ask what the travel schedule actually looks like, how many kids dress on game day, and who is coaching your kid's age group. MLS NEXT vs ECNL covers the comparison.
What is ECNL RL, and why does it keep coming up?
ECNL Regional League is the tier directly below ECNL, organized into regional conferences so most league play stays in-state. Fifty-three California clubs hold a place in it, which makes it the level most California clubs are actually selling you. ECNL RL vs EDP vs NECSL explains how it compares to the Northeast equivalents.
Is club soccer really free at San Diego FC?
Per the club, the Right to Dream Academy is fully tuition-free for student-athletes and their families, with costs covered by the founders. Two things to understand before you plan around it: it is a residential academy with a grades 6–12 school attached, not a club team, and tryouts are currently open only for boys born in 2014 and 2015. Confirm both directly with the club before you build a plan on it.
Which California club is best for a boys player?
There is no single answer, and any site that gives you one is guessing. Nine clubs with live profiles carry both ECNL Boys and the full ECNL RL and Pre-ECNL Boys structure beneath it, which is the widest confirmed boys' ladder we can verify: MVLA, Marin FC, Mustang SC, Pateadores, San Juan SC, Sporting California USA, San Diego Surf, Slammers FC, and Los Gatos United. Start from the ones you can reach, not the ones with the best website.
Which California club is best for a girls player?
Same answer, same reason. The widest confirmed girls' ladders among live profiles are Slammers FC, San Diego Surf, Pateadores, MVLA, Marin FC, Mustang SC, San Juan SC, Sporting California USA, LA Breakers FC and LAFC So Cal, each carrying ECNL Girls plus the ECNL RL and Pre-ECNL Girls tiers below it. Pleasanton RAGE and So Cal Blues are the strongest all-girls-focused options we can confirm.
When do California clubs hold tryouts?
Earlier than most parents expect. Player ID sessions at the top tier start in January and February — De Anza Force opens MLS NEXT sessions on January 7. Most formal tryouts run April through June, with ECNL and MLS NEXT programs earliest. Strikers FC has 2026-27 tryouts live already, with MLS NEXT teams starting July 2026 and its other tiers in March and April. Our tryout guide covers preparation.
Does a coach's license tell me the club is good?
It is one data point, not a quality ladder. A USSF C-licensed coach who connects with 12-year-olds and runs organized sessions beats a B-licensed coach who cannot communicate with them. Watch a session if you can — and ask whether your kid can join one or two on a trial basis, which several California clubs will accommodate. The red flag at any age is not the ratio, it is long lines of kids standing and waiting. How to evaluate a youth soccer coach has the full checklist, and coaching licenses explained covers the credentials.
How is California club soccer different from the Northeast?
Three ways that matter. The tier structure is ECNL RL and Pre-ECNL rather than EDP and NECSL, so the ladder starts at U9 inside a club instead of at U13 between clubs. The top tier exists in every region, so distance is more negotiable than it is in Vermont or Maine. And the season calendar is year-round with a winter high school conflict rather than a fall one.
What Our California Data Doesn't Tell You Yet
Being straight about the gaps, because a directory that hides them is not worth using:
- State league affiliations are barely covered. Nine records carry a NorCal Premier, SOCAL or Coast Soccer League place. In reality, most California travel soccer is played in those leagues. Our enrichment has not reached them club by club.
- Fees are effectively uncovered. Twenty-one records carry any fee text at all, and only five of those contain a dollar figure. None is a season fee.
- Age-group coverage is not recorded club by club. We can tell you a club runs Pre-ECNL. We cannot yet tell you whether it fields a 2016 boys team.
- Facility and training-location data covers 50 of 137 records. For the rest, we cannot tell you where practice actually is, which is the single most useful fact for a commuting family.
- We have no parent reviews for California yet. Everything above is league and enrichment data. If you have been through a tryout at one of these clubs, that is the missing half.
Next Steps
- Search clubs near you — filter by region, age group and league, then sort by what you can actually drive to.
- Shortlist three, not one. Two clubs you can reach comfortably and one stretch option is a better list than a single favorite.
- Ask the four questions that matter: what is the full annual cost including tournaments and travel, how many kids are on the game-day roster versus the team roster, how many teams share the training field at the same time, and can my kid join a session on trial.
- Check the calendar now. If your kid is at the top tier, ID sessions may already be open.
- Read How to Choose a Youth Soccer Club before the first tryout, and the age-by-age guide to calibrate what is normal for your kid's year.
If a club near you is missing, wrong, or shows less than it runs, tell us. California is our newest big state and the data gets better every time a parent or a director corrects it.
