How This Guide Works

We're not ranking these clubs or making subjective judgments about quality. Every family's situation is different — what matters is finding the right fit based on your location, your child's age and competitive level, and your family's budget.

For each club, we list factual information: location, leagues, age groups, and direct quotes from the club's own website. Use this as a starting point, then visit clubs, watch practices, and talk to other parents. Our guide on how to choose a club covers what to look for, and our coach evaluation guide has specific questions to ask. For a statewide overview of every affiliated club and league in Connecticut, see our Club Soccer in Connecticut state guide.

For how these leagues compare, see our DPL vs ECNL comparison or our Girls Academy vs DPL breakdown.

What to Know Before You Choose

The I-95 corridor defines your options. Traffic on I-95, the Merritt Parkway, and Route 1 at 5:30 PM shapes which clubs are realistic for your family. A club in Norwalk might be 20 minutes from Stamford on a Saturday but 45 minutes on a Tuesday at practice time. Map the drive at rush hour before committing. Our guide on how to choose a club covers this in detail.

The NY border is an opportunity. Greenwich families are 10-15 minutes from Purchase, NY (FC Westchester, MLS NEXT) and Rye Brook (CFC South training). Don't limit your search to Connecticut.

Cost varies dramatically. Town travel (CJSA) may cost $150-$500 per season. ECNL or MLS NEXT programs can run $5,500-$12,000+ per year including showcase travel. See our travel soccer cost breakdown for what to budget at each level.

Your child's age changes the equation. At U8-U10, focus on finding good coaching close to home. The competitive leagues (ECNL, DPL, EDP) become more meaningful at U13+. See our age-by-age guide for what to prioritize at each stage.

Tryout season runs May through June. See our tryout guide for what to expect and how to prepare. Check the ClubScout tryout calendar for specific dates.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the highest-level club near Stamford/Greenwich?

For ECNL (boys and girls), CFC South trains in Greenwich and feeds into CFC United at U15. For MLS NEXT (boys), FC Westchester in Purchase, NY is a founding member, and Beachside SC in Norwalk has Homegrown teams. For DPL (girls), Inter Connecticut FC in Wilton. The "highest level" depends on your child's gender, age, and what you're looking for.

Are there clubs that cross the CT/NY border?

Yes. CFC South trains at Blind Brook in Rye Brook, NY. FC Westchester (Purchase, NY) and Westchester Flames (New Rochelle, NY) draw CT families. Greenwich families commonly look at Westchester County clubs. There are no restrictions on playing for a club in a different state.

How much does club soccer cost in this area?

Town travel (CJSA SWD): $150-$500 per season. EDP-level clubs: $2,500-$6,000 per year. ECNL/MLS NEXT: $5,500-$12,000+ per year. Greenwich United describes its costs as "30-40% lower than competitors." See our cost breakdown.

When are tryouts?

Most clubs hold tryouts in May and June for the following fall season. Some offer rolling evaluations. Check the ClubScout tryout calendar and individual club websites. Our tryout guide covers preparation.

My child is new to competitive soccer. Where should we start?

Start with your town's CJSA travel program — Greenwich SA (no tryouts required), Stamford FC, Darien SA, New Canaan FC, etc. These provide a low-cost introduction to competitive play. If your child outgrows that level, look at EDP clubs. See our rec vs travel soccer guide.

What about girls-only pathways?

DPL at Inter Connecticut FC is the primary girls-only competitive pathway in the area. CFC also has ECNL Girls teams. For more on girls' options, see our Girls Academy guide, DPL guide, or our DPL vs ECNL comparison.
