How This Guide Works

We're not ranking these clubs or making subjective judgments about quality. Every family's situation is different — what matters is finding the right fit based on your location, your child's age and competitive level, and your family's budget and schedule.

For each club, we list factual information: location, leagues, and gender. Use this as a starting point, then visit clubs, watch practices, and talk to other parents. Our guide on how to choose a club covers what to look for, and our coach evaluation guide has specific questions to ask.

For families new to club soccer, our recreational vs. travel soccer guide explains the differences, and our age-by-age guide covers what to expect at each stage. If cost is a factor, see our club soccer budget guide. For clubs in other parts of the New York metro area, see our NYC Metro guide, Long Island guide, and Northern NJ guide. For the full statewide overview, see Club Soccer in New York.

Understanding the Westchester and Hudson Valley Soccer Landscape

League Structure

Westchester and the Hudson Valley have a multi-tiered competitive soccer structure:

  • MLS NEXT: FC Westchester (Purchase), Fox Soccer Academy (Warwick), and FC Hudson Valley (Salt Point) are the current MLS NEXT clubs. Cedar Stars Academy Hudson Valley (Newburgh) is joining the MLS NEXT Academy Division for 2026-27. For how MLS NEXT compares to ECNL, see MLS NEXT vs ECNL.
  • ECNL: New York Eagles (Yonkers) fields ECNL Boys. World Class FC (Orangeburg) fields ECNL Boys. The ECNL Regional League includes Quickstrike FC. See our ECNL guide.
  • Girls Academy: New York Eagles runs Girls Academy teams. World Class FC has an NYCFC partnership for girls development. See ECNL vs Girls Academy.
  • DPL: Clarkstown Soccer Club (New City) was accepted for the 2025-26 season. See our DPL guide.
  • NPL: New York Eagles and Quickstrike FC compete through NYCSL. See our NPL guide.
  • EDP Soccer: The dominant regional league. Multiple clubs compete in EDP North Atlantic. See our EDP guide and EDP vs NECSL.
  • WYSL: The Westchester Youth Soccer League, established in 1977, has 55+ member clubs, 650+ teams, and 20,000+ players. It is the foundation of competitive soccer in Westchester County. Most clubs start here at younger ages (U8-U10) before moving to EDP at U11+. Affiliated with US Club Soccer.
  • HVYSL: The Hudson Valley Youth Soccer League has 40+ clubs and 15,000+ players. It covers Dutchess, Orange, Ulster, Putnam, Rockland, and Sullivan counties and is the second-largest league in New York.

Geographic Considerations

This guide covers a large geographic area, and the competitive landscape differs significantly by sub-region:

  • Southern Westchester (Yonkers, New Rochelle, Pelham, Scarsdale): Closest to NYC, 20-40 minutes from Manhattan. Some families also consider NYC-based clubs. See our NYC Metro guide.
  • Northern Westchester (Mt Kisco, Katonah, Yorktown Heights): More suburban, with longer drives to national-level programs in southern Westchester and Purchase.
  • Rockland County (New City, Orangeburg, Spring Valley): West side of the Hudson. World Class FC and Clarkstown Soccer Club are the anchor programs.
  • Orange County (Newburgh, Warwick, New Windsor): A growing competitive scene. Fox Soccer Academy fields MLS NEXT, and Cedar Stars Academy HV is joining MLS NEXT for 2026-27.
  • Dutchess County (Poughkeepsie, Salt Point, Hopewell Junction): FC Hudson Valley MLS NEXT is the top program. Families face longer drives to access broader competition.
  • Putnam County (Brewster, Putnam Valley): The smallest market. Families typically travel to northern Westchester or Dutchess for competitive options.

I-287, I-684, the Hutchinson River Parkway, and the Saw Mill River Parkway are the main corridors connecting these areas. Traffic is a real factor, particularly for families in southern Westchester commuting north to Purchase or for Hudson Valley families traveling south for away matches.

Tryout Season

Most clubs in this area hold tryouts from April through June for the following fall season. WYSL has specific tryout windows that member clubs must follow. Some national-level programs (ECNL, MLS NEXT) hold additional identification sessions in the winter. Check individual club websites or the ClubScout tryout calendar for specific dates. For tips on preparing, see our tryout guide.

Cost Considerations

Club soccer costs in Westchester and the Hudson Valley vary significantly by level:

  • WYSL/HVYSL travel (entry-level): $1,500-$3,000 per year
  • EDP / TNL: $2,500-$5,000 per year
  • ECNL-RL / NPL / DPL: $4,000-$7,000 per year
  • ECNL / Girls Academy / MLS NEXT: $5,000-$10,000+ per year

Westchester is one of the highest cost-of-living areas in the United States, with a median household income around $118,000. Indoor training during the winter months adds significant costs, and most clubs do not publish fees publicly — pricing is typically shared during the tryout process or upon invitation. Additional costs to budget for: uniforms ($300-$500 per kit cycle), tournament travel (especially for MLS NEXT and ECNL away matches across the tri-state area), and optional private training.

For a detailed breakdown, see our travel soccer cost guide and budget guide. Families managing multiple players should check our multiple kids in club soccer guide.

What to Do Next

  1. Narrow by county and level. Use the tables above to find clubs near you that match your child's competitive level.
  2. Check ClubScout profiles. Each linked club name takes you to their full profile with parent reviews, contact info, and more detail.
  3. Attend tryouts. Most clubs hold tryouts in April-June for the following fall season. See our tryout guide for what to expect.
  4. Talk to current families. Ask about practice schedules, travel expectations (especially for MLS NEXT and ECNL away matches across the tri-state area), and the actual costs beyond published fees.
  5. Read reviews. Parent reviews on ClubScout give you an unfiltered look at what it's actually like to be part of a club.

If you're new to club soccer entirely, start with our guide on recreational vs. travel soccer and our age-by-age breakdown to understand when and whether to make the move. If your child is already playing and considering a switch, that guide covers what to watch for.
